The National Botanical Garden of Georgia.
Formerly known as the Tbilisi Botanical Garden, it’s a large botanical garden situated in the heart of the city. Accessible both by walking and by Tbilisi cable car (few minutes and you’re there), the place is a very popular attraction in Tbilisi both for tourists and locals — the entrance fee is low, and the place is big enough for everyone to enjoy a nice walk.

1. The National Botanical Garden of Georgia in Tbilisi: Basics
There are two entrances — you can use any of them.
I would recommend the entrance next to the cable car. Because this way you can both have a super nice view of Tbilisi, visit the Mother of Georgia statue if you wish, and go to the National Botanical Garden of Georgia. If you’ve been to the Mother of Georgia statue or to the Narikala Fortress, you must have seen the botanical garden from above. All of these popular tourists sights of Tbilisi, are situated right next to each other.
MY ROUTE:
TIME & DISTANCE: starting from 3 miles / 4.8 km (1 – 2 hours).
You can also spend more time in the park if you like these kind of places.
TIPS: it’s a popular place for everyone to go on a walk, so plan your time accordingly to avoid the crowds. Weekday mornings could be a much better choice than weekends.
2. How to Get to the National Botanical Garden of Georgia?

The place is right next to city center.
It’s only a short walk away from the Freedom square.
You can walk there, take a taxi or – even better – a cable car. The cable car station is in the Rike park, on the other bank of river Mtkvari. The cable car goes from the Rike park all the way to the entrance of the botanical garden and the Mother of Georgia statue — they are next to each other.
3.The National Botanical Garden of Georgia in Tbilisi: Our Experience
We wanted a nice and easy walk in Tbilisi, and we got one!
Even though it isn’t as impressive as the Batumi Botanical Garden (that place is awesome!), it’s still super cool to have such a big park in the heart of the city and close proximity to everything. I’m not a botanical garden expert, so I might be wrong, but that’s exactly how we felt in this garden — more or less like in a regular, well-kept park.
In Batumi it was a completely different experience. There in some places we felt like in Malaysia or Thailand not Georgia, but not here. I guess, that means that the variety of trees and plants growing here isn’t that wide like in Batumi.
