Surrounded by mountains, Tbilisi has no shortage of nice viewpoints.
However, nothing beats the easiness of getting to the Mother of Georgia. The statue (and the site it’s located on) is only a short walk away from the old town. If you don’t want to walk the stairs, you can take the Tbilisi cable car. It’s the same cable car going from the Rike park to the National Botanical Garden of Georgia.

1. The Mother of Georgia Viewpoint in Tbilisi: Basics
Do you want to take a look at Tbilisi from above?
This is the place you should be heading to. Unless you want a bigger psychical challenge, because then you should better take the Turtle Lake hike.
LOCATION:
ENTRANCE: free
TIPS: walk to the Mother of Georgia statue, and then take a cable car to go down to the Rike park, to explore the other bank of river Mtkvari. If you also plan to visit the National Botanical Garden of Georgia on the same day, better take cable car for going in both directions, as otherwise it would include a lot of walking (if you count in the walk in the botanical garden itself).
2. How to Get to the Mother of Georgia?

The place is in the heart of Tbilisi, and visible from everywhere.
It’s only a short walk away from the Freedom square.
You can walk there or – even better – take a cable car. The cable car station is in the Rike park, on the other bank of river Mtkvari. The cable car goes from the Rike park all the way to the entrance of the botanical garden and the Mother of Georgia statue — both of them are right next to each other.
3. The Mother of Georgia Viewpoint in Tbilisi: Our Experience
It was our very first day in Tbilisi, Georgia.
We were super tired after our red-eye flight from Turkey to Georgia, so we were just wandering around the city center without any goal. Until we noticed the big statue towering over the city, when we knew — we want to get there and take a look at Tbilisi from above, and so we did it. It was cloudy and raining on that day, so most of the photos in this article are from our other visits to the spot.
Here are a few photos from our visit to the Mother of Georgia Tbilisi viewpoint:

Have you been to Tbilisi? Did you visit the Mother of Georgia? If yes, what was your experience? Can you recommend any other Tbilisi viewpoints?
