This is the most popular bike path in Riga.
Riga – Jurmala bike path is well known both by locals and tourists.
During the summer it may even get crowded on this bike path, as thousands of people are cycling either to Jurmala (to go to the beach) or back to Riga. The path is roughly 12.5 miles / 20 km long, and takes you all the way from Riga city center to Jurmala, one of the best known beach destinations in Latvia. All year round it is a great place where to go cycling in Riga.
Riga – Jurmala Bike Path: Basics
As of late 2020, the bike path now is even better.
Thanks to new asphalt that was laid along the worst parts of the path.
DISTANCE: around 12.5 miles / 20 km one way;
DIFFICULTY: easy (it is mostly flat with only a few tiny uphills);
STARTING POINT: Vansu bridge (turning to the right shortly after the bridge);
TIPS: follow the signs closely, it is easy to miss them in some places on the first half of the bike path. If you don’t have a bicycle, you can rent one in Riga. It is very easy to rent a bicycle in Riga. Or if you are in Jurmala, look for some Jurmala bike rental. There are plenty of them. Most likely it will be more expensive than renting a bicycle in Riga.
Remember that there are only a few cafes and shops on the way.
